This grant became available to Gosport businesses from 2nd December when Gosport was designated “Local COVID Alert Level ‘High’” (Tier 2) until 18th December, after which Tier 4 will be available.
This is support for businesses that are not legally required to close but which are severely impacted by the localised restrictions on socialising put in place to manage the coronavirus. This support is targeted for businesses in the hospitality and leisure sector. An example of this is pubs that can remain open, but whose sales have been dramatically affected by the restrictions.

Gosport Borough Council is required to collect information from businesses receiving the Additional Restrictions Support Grant payments, and will be expected to account for how the funding has been spent. Grant recipients are advised that they may be contacted for research purposes, and that their data will be shared with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) for research and evaluation purposes.
It is vitally important that Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) have this information centrally to allow Government to understand and evaluate how the provision is working. This is done for a number of different reasons, including:
- Accountability – to provide a clear and transparent basis for why this policy has been implemented, and its progress over time.
- Efficiency – ensuring that we are maximising the value delivered from this public spending and ensuring opportunities for analysis and learning for the future.
- Effectiveness – ensuring that policy makes a positive impact and understanding the context of when that happens.
