Gosport Borough Council is asking residents to celebrate their favourite local independent business over the past year. Whether it's a local coffee shop, hairdressers or market stall, all independent businesses are eligible.

Councillor Peter Chegwyn, Leader of Gosport Borough Council, said "Gosport is full of brilliant independent businesses offering everything from handmade crafts to tasty dining experiences. Many of them are run by and employ local people, and they're part of the fabric of our communities. Celebrate your favourite local business by nominating them to win a bumper prize package - and a great start to the new year."

A business-boosting prize package

The winner will be the business with the most nominations. The top prize including promotion as winners of the competition through a press release and social media, and a 1-2-1 marketing support package including bespoke video content. The winner and runners-up will also be invited to a celebration event with the Mayor of Gosport at the Town Hall on Thursday 30 January.

How to nominate your favourite independent business

Nominations open today (Friday 22 November) and can be made via an online form before 5.00pm on Monday 13 January 2025. The winning business and runners-up will be informed later that week.

An independent business is a small business that is not affiliated with a larger corporation or chain, has less than 50 employees and a turnover of less than £10m.

Businesses will also be able to print or pick up pre-printed posters to encourage their customers to nominate them. More information on how to participate as a business is available on the competition page on the Gosport Borough Council website.
