Gosport 100
A hundred years ago, in November 1922, Gosport officially became a borough, after King George V approved the grant of a municipal charter. This gave the town a special formal status.
Gosport artist Martin Snape designed the official seal of the new borough, which is the basis for the council's crest.
The anniversary is an opportunity for local people to join together to help celebrate our history and heritage and show how proud we are of where we live.
Town Hall Open Day - 19 November
Events will include a free Town Hall open day on 19 November, 10am-4pm, where you can see behind the scenes and view historical exhibits.
As part of the Town Hall open day on the 19th November we would love for the young people of the Borough to colour in our Gosport 100 logo as creatively as possible for display on the day.
The logo can be downloaded Gosport 100 logo black (PDF) [529KB] , or a hardcopy can be collected from the Town Hall reception.
Please drop them back to the Town Hall for display on 19 November.
In tandem with the open day on 19 November, representatives and partners from Gosport's Community Safety Partnership will be available in the Town Hall reception area from 11am to 2pm. They will be able to give advice on community safety, crime or anti-social behaviour issues. Emergency service vehicles will be on display and there will be 100 free cycle security coding kits on offer.
A special Gosport 100 pin badge has also been produced, available for £3 at the Town Hall, from Monday 14 November (cash only please).
As part of the 100th anniversary, we'd love you to tell us about your memories of the local area. You can do this by adding to the oral history collection at Gosport Discovery Centre. Just pop into the centre and speak to staff, or email gosport.dc@hants.gov.uk
The collection includes memories of living, working, or serving in Gosport. You can borrow recordings and listen to memories people have already contributed, with titles including Experiences of Living and Growing Up in Gosport, Memories of Gosport County Grammar School and Growing Up in Gosport and Joining the Navy.
