Gosport set to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III

The council is helping to make sure Gosport residents can celebrate the Coronation in style.
The borough's official celebration will be at 11am on Sunday 7 May, when the Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, Surgeon Rear Admiral Lionel Jarvis, and the Mayor of Gosport, Cllr Jamie Hutchison, as well as other councillors, will be at the Coronation civic service at Holy Trinity Church in Gosport. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the service will be live-streamed. 
On Saturday 6 May, C2U (Community 2 Unite) are hosting a street party on Gosport High Street, with a live stream of the historic royal service at Westminster Abbey, tables to picnic on, and a raffle. A grant from the council has helped make this event possible. There is no need to book a spot, and there is entertainment for the whole family. The event will be officially opened by the Mayor at 10.50 am.
The local community will also be celebrating the Coronation in Lee-on-the-Solent on Sunday 7 May from 12 noon, with live music and entertainment at the Marine Parade and Promenade. All are welcome to attend. A grant from the council has also helped to fund this event.
To mark this special national occasion, both the Union Flag and the Borough Flag will fly high from the Falkland Gardens flagpole alongside a special Coronation flag designed to observe the celebrations.  
After a fund-raising effort in aid of the coronation by Lee Residents Association, the council has also agreed to maintain the community's new flagpole on Lee-on-the-Solent seafront.  
Cllr Peter Chegwyn, Leader of the Council, said: "The Coronation of King Charles III will be a significant date in British history, and it is tremendous that we have been able to support so many people across Gosport in hosting and attending local events as part of the national celebrations."
The council has also helped residents to plan celebrations by authorising road closures for 14 street parties across the borough during the bank holiday weekend. It is an opportunity to bring neighbours together and mark the Coronation of His Majesty, King Charles III.
