Key workers get free bike check-ups

Almost 40 Gosport key workers have had their bikes fixed for free at special lockdown drop-in sessions.

Gosport Community Safety Partnership funded four weekly 'bike doctor' sessions at Bicycle Recycling at Gosport bus station, with the final one on Tuesday 30 June from 10am to 4pm.

Essential and key workers just need to show their ID to get a safety check, basic repairs, minor servicing and adjustments, all for free. They can also buy D-locks at a discounted price of £10 and get their bikes security coded.

So far 39 bikes have been serviced, 13 locks have been sold and 29 bikes have been coded.

Cllr John Beavis, of Gosport Borough Council, who chairs the safety partnership, said: "Key workers really deserve our thanks and support. We know a lot of the workers in Gosport travel by bike, and we thought this was a good way of helping them out. I'm glad it's been a popular service."

The partnership includes representatives of local councils, police, the fire service, the NHS and other agencies, working to make Gosport a safe place to live and work.
