Balloon and Sky Lanterns releases
The following states the Council's position on these activities.
Council land booked for events: Balloon and sky lantern releases are prohibited.
The Council requests that care and consideration be given when using them on privately owned land.
RELEASE OF BALLOONS AND SKY LANTERNS
Gosport Borough Council agrees with the National Fire Chiefs Council that the release of sky lanterns pose a fire hazard and cause risk to wildlife, livestock, green spaces and properties.
Gosport Borough Council strongly urges residents not to use them in line with the fire safety advice and the potential added pressure it could put on emergency services.
With regard to the releasing of balloons; Gosport Borough Council actively discourages the use of balloons and encourages people to mark occasions appropriately and in a way that is safe and environmentally-friendly.
Gosport Council will not allow release of sky lanterns or balloons at events booked on Council land.
The release of lighted sky lanterns anywhere along the Borough's coastline is also prohibited under current Seashore Byelaws.
