Disabled Band Relief

If you, or someone who lives with you, need a room, or an extra bathroom or kitchen, or extra space in your property to meet special needs arising from a disability, you may be entitled to a reduced Council Tax bill. .  ( We may need to visit your property before being able to apply this reduction)  If you qualify then your council tax will be reduced by a band ie if your porperty is a are a Band C you bill will be reduced to the equivalent Band B charge

Severe Mental Impairment

If you, or someone who lives with you is severely mentally impaired  - has a severe impairment of intelligence and social functioning  (however caused) which appears to be permanent and is also in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

Incapacity benefit

Attendance allowance

Severe disablement allowance

Disability living allowance (higher or middle-rate care component)

Increase in disablement pension (due to constant attendance being needed)

Unemployability supplement or allowance

Constant attendance allowance

Income support (which includes a disability premium)

Personal independence payment (standard or enhanced daily living component)

Armed forces independence payment

Disability working allowance (based on getting income support including disability premium)

Universal credit (including an element for limited capability for work or limited capability for work and work-related activity)

Then a discount or exemption to council tax may apply.   The impairment will need to be certified by a medical practioner and proof of the benefit/allowance will be required.
