Gosport Ambassadors Programme

Graphic recording of Gosport Ambassadors meeting 30 01 24

Its origins - the Gosport Story

There was a consensus amongst local business, community and public sector leaders that Gosport punches below its weight, that the reality of the place is way better than its image. As a result its potential was not being recognised or realised.

Therefore it was agreed that Gosport should develop a forward-looking place story at the heart of a new place led marketing approach for the town. Following stakeholder engagement and consultant input the Gosport Story was created to articulate the distinctiveness, character and characteristics of Gosport - highlighting what makes us special and the opportunities for development and promotion.

The aim is to get as many people and organisations as possible to 'tell and sell' the Gosport Story to their networks and contacts i.e. become Gosport Ambassadors.

Who are Gosport Ambassadors?

A powerful network of local businesses, organisations and residents working together to help change perceptions of Gosport, thereby raising its profile in the eyes of investors, businesses and visitors.

Meetings are held at venues that are an integral part of the Gosport offer e.g. The Alverbank Hotel, Powder Monkey Brewery and St Vincent College. Along with finding out more about the venue there are also keynote presentations from those that are already making things happen in Gosport and updates on major developments and regeneration schemes. In combination these insights help to showcase what is great about Gosport.

It also brings people together who care about Gosport and want to build positive change for the town. Therefore it is an opportunity for those businesses, organisations and residents to work together with the council to help deliver a range of Ambassador lead initiatives.

Since the scheme's inception in 2020 the network has grown to over 150 people and the following 'pillars' have been identified by the Ambassadors as their priorities for joint working initiatives:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Business
  • Community
  • Education and skills
  • Health and Environment

Working groups have also been established to deliver 'pillar' related initiatives.

What do I need to do as an Ambassador?

Talk about Gosport to your contacts, especially those outside of the town - explain why it's a great place to live, work, visit and do business. You can also use the Gosport Story branding and photography in your own marketing activities to help promote our story to a wide range of audiences.

Attend Ambassador events - to get insights into local developments, initiatives and success stories that are driving Gosport forward. You will also be able to create and foster mutually beneficial relationships with your fellow Ambassadors.

Bring your passion, dynamism, knowledge, ideas, resources and contacts - to help with the implementation of Gosport Ambassador lead initiatives that will drive the network and the town forward.

Promote your Gosport based successes and good news stories, particularly on social media - also share fellow Ambassadors' successes and good news with your networks and contacts. When doing so via social media please use the following hastags:

#ThisisGosport

#GoodthingshappeninGosport
